William Smith

Mr. Smith is a semi-retired senior management consultant and a retired Marine officer. Continuing his service to America as a member of the Board of Directors of the Young Marines, he has been a Director since 2008 and Chairman since 2014.

A retired senior consultant with LMI, a not-for-profit government consultancy, Mr. Smith’s diverse assignments include: business development executive focused on Department of Defense accounts; General Manager, Saudi Arabia operations; and Regional Director, North Africa with on-site management responsibilities in Tripoli, Libya. Mr. Smith has extensive Department of State assignments to include developing an interagency plan to re-establish U.S. diplomatic presence in Libya and a yearlong effort at the U.S. Embassy Kabul to develop plans for an enduring diplomatic presence in Afghanistan post-2014. Other key assignments include: supporting the U.S. Institute of Peace and National Defense Panel in a report to Congress on the DoD’s 2009 Quadrennial Defense Review; project lead for year-long effort in Iraq to assist Coalition Force advisors develop sustainment and logistics capacities of Iraqi Security Force ministries; and Lead, Logistics Test and Experimentation Team of Boeing test engineers supporting the Army’s Future Combat System.

Mr. Smith, a retired Marine Colonel, held a variety of operational and staff assignments. His assignments included: Commanding Officer, Officer Candidates School; command of infantry organizations from platoon through battalion; Director, Coalition and Special Warfare Center; United Nations Peacekeeper, U.S. Military Observer Group Palestine; and Director, Drill Instructor School MCRD Parris Island. His various staff assignments included: Military Assistant to the Assistant Commandant; Deputy for Marine Corps Matters with the Secretary of the Navy’s Office of Program Appraisal; Marine Corps Liaison to the Department of the Navy’s Program Information Center; Program Coordination Officer, and Programs and Resources Headquarters Marine Corps.

Mr. Smith is a graduate of the Amphibious Warfare School, the Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and a distinguished graduate of the Naval War College. He holds a Masters in National Security and Strategic Studies, Masters in Business Administration, and a Bachelors in Business Administration in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin.

Mr. Smith is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Military Officers Association of America, and the Marine Corps Association.
