Over the past two decades, in keeping up with the dramatic advances and innovations in the global marketplace, the language services industry itself has undergone a technological revolution. At PGLS, we stay at the forefront of the latest technological advances in the industry to make your experience more efficient, reliable, and cost-effective. Our comprehensive language technology solutions encompass the latest in Computer-Assisted Translation/Translation Memory (CAT/TM) tools, Project Workflow Management Systems, and Localization Solutions.

Computer-Assisted Translation/Translation Memory (CAT/TM)

CAT/TM tools work as a linguistic database that stores source content and captures a human translator’s corresponding translated content as they work. The software saves these “segments” of text, such as sentences, sentence-like units, and paragraphs to be re-used in the future, thus improving the efficiency and consistency of human translators.

As a translator is working through a translation, the software displays each segment of text and a corresponding previous translation for re-use, if there is at least a partial match. The translator then has the option to re-use the previously translated segment with a single click, slightly revise the translation, or enter an entirely new translation.

Text segments are normally broken down into “No Match” (or “new” text), “Fuzzy Match” (a partial match between the source text and a previous translated segment) and “Repetitions” or “100% Match,” where the translation of an entire segment can be re-used completely, without modification.

This type of technology benefits translators by making them more efficient, and also provides significant benefits to the client, as they will usually pay discounted rates for words contained in repetitive segments. These savings can be significant, particularly in highly-repetitive texts, such as websites, technical manuals, and software applications.

However, it is vital to remember that CAT/TM tools do not produce “machine translations,” although some CAT/TM tools do possess some Machine Translation (MT) functionality which can be used in conjunction with the CAT/TM tool and a human translator/editor (known as “Human-Assisted Machine Translation” or HAMT). Therefore, a translation performed using a CAT/TM tool is still a “human translation.”

Over the years, CAT/TM tools have evolved to include – and integrate with – a variety of other tools, including spell checkers, grammar checkers, terminology managers and databases, project and translation management platforms to manage the translation workflow, and content management systems.

At PGLS, we work with a variety of CAT/TM tools, including SDL Trados, WordFast, Déjà Vu, MemoQ, and more.

Translation Project Management System

One of the key components in providing a quality service is maintaining a system to efficiently and effectively manage the constant stream of language projects, covering a variety of services, at different stages of completion, and being able to provide clients with accurate and up-to-date information regarding the status of their requests.

At PGLS, we use the Plunet software platform to track and manage each and every language project that we handle. Plunet is the industry leader when it comes to business and translation project management, providing a feature-rich system that is customizable based on client requirements and varying workflows. The Plunet dashboard provides a real-time overview of all translation project information, ranging from requests, quotes, and orders, to tasks, deadlines, and invoices. This allows our project managers to ensure that every project is on schedule, assigned to the appropriate resource(s), and that no step in our comprehensive process is overlooked.

The Plunet system also includes a web-based portal for clients to submit requests and seamlessly initiate projects. The system also provides a robust file and content management system to ensure correct version control with our clients’ valuable content, all while maintaining industry-leading security and data protection to guarantee that your critical information is safe and secure at all times. Additionally, manual and automatic web penetration tests by external specialists are conducted regularly to ensure compliance.

In addition to the above, Plunet also provides for seamless integration with a variety of CAT/TM tools, customized reports, automated notifications, and even modules for event management, interpreting management, resource management, and quality management. All of these functions work together to guarantee a seamless, high quality experience, from start to finish – on time, every time.

Localization Management Platform

When it comes to localization, the unique technical requirements – from complex software to multilingual websites – necessitate a dynamic and agile system to manage every stage in the localization process, from start to finish.

To meet these technical challenges, PGLS employs the robust and agile LingoPort to manage the entire localization process and workflow. The LingoPort platform combines the latest in process automation, metrics, visibility, and collaboration, eliminating excessive manual tracking, rework, and globalization backlogs commonly found in complex localization projects. It even allows developers to work within their preferred Integrated Development Environment (IDE) to check for internationalization issues such as Concatenations, Strings, Locale Sensitive Methods, Programming Patterns, and Static Files.

LingoPort’s Globalyzer, Resource Manager, and InContext QA components also work together to support all i18n, L10n and QA processes, allowing for globalization data to be centralized on the Lingoport Suite Dashboard so that localization project managers, engineers, and linguists can find and fix bugs early on in the localization process. This allows localization and translation resources to cut down on manual tasks and translation time, simplified linguistic QA testing, fixing linguistic bugs, and much more.
